Post-Winter Signs of Roof Damage

Home Roofing Post-Winter Signs of Roof Damage

With the most turbulent months of winter now behind us (however, with New England’s weather patterns you can never be so sure) it’s as smart a time as ever for homeowners to assess the state of their roofs. All winter long, the likes of snow, sleet, and ice can easily wreak havoc on a compromised or faulty roofing system. Sometimes, all it takes is simple water damage or missing shingles to make your roof vulnerable to relentless damage from the elements, ultimately costing you a fortune in roof repair service. In today’s blog, we’ll be giving you tips on how to stay ahead of the curve and detect the signs of roof damage early on. If that sounds interesting, keep reading below!

Sign #1 – Damaged Shingles

A sign of roofing damage that is far from hidden, damaged shingles are one of the telltale signs that your roof may be vulnerable to the elements. Look closely at the shingles on your roof, are they buckling, cracked, or just damaged in general? Depending on how damaged they are, your roof may be at risk for an eventual leak. It’s best to stop this issue before it gets worse and invest in a roof repair or replacement service. Damaged shingles not only affect the appearance of your roof, but can also harm its functionality as well.

Sign #2 – Internal Warning Signs

Interestingly enough, problems with your roofing system can be detected in your home’s interior. Your roof’s purpose is to protect the inside of your home, so if you notice signs of internal damage, particularly water damage, then the time may be right to consider a roof repair or replacement, which can prevent further problems such as leaking, destroyed insulation, and even mold.

The ideal place for detecting roof damage is by inspecting your attic. If you notice signs of water damage on or across the ceiling, then your roof may be compromised.

Sign #3 – Sagging

This sign is quite self-explanatory. If you’re inspecting your roof and notice that your roof is sagging or drooping, then your roof may in fact need maintenance. If left untreated, a sagging roof can lead to disastrous consequences over time, costing you a lot and possibly damaging your home’s interior.
